Celebrating 50 Years of Impact: The Vance Twins’ Birthday Bash at the Washington State History Museum

Gluing Broken Pieces with Love and Compassion – the Vance Twins, Co-founders of Adoption Truth and Transparency Honored by Adoption Savvy
In a heartwarming celebration of their 50th birthday, Jenette and Janine Vance, the dynamic co-founders of Adoption Truth and Transparency Information Network, were honored at a spectacular event at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma, Washington. Surrounded by friends, colleagues, and activists from around the world, the evening was filled with nostalgic music, enchanting decorations, delectable desserts, and a surprise gift that encapsulated the essence of their mission.
A Night of Nostalgia and Joy
As DJ Sparks spun tunes from the 80s, including favorites like Modern Talking, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Duran Duran, and U2, the atmosphere was electric with memories of the twins’ teenage years. Friends and coworkers from Lifecare Nursing Home and guests from countries as diverse as India, Sierra Leone, Colombia, South Korea, the U.S., Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Chile joined in, dancing the night away, creating an unforgettable experience.
Magical Touch of Unspeakable Joy
The event space was adorned with an enchanting touch by Jeanie from Unspeakable Joy, who used her artistic flair to weave magic into the ambiance. Her creativity and attention to detail turned the venue into a captivating and immersive space, perfectly reflecting the spirits of Jenette and Janine.
Yryna’s Assorted Desserts – A Delightful Treat
Yryna, one of Jenette’s coworkers, delighted the guests with an array of delectable desserts, including the incredible birthday cake! The scrumptious treats perfectly complemented the festivities and were a testament to Jenette’s warmth and kindness to her workplace.
Adoption Savvy’s Heartfelt Surprise

A beautiful Gift from Amy and Jennifer (Adoption Savvy)
The highlight of the evening was when Adoption Savvy, a support group of mothers and adopted individuals from their therapy group, presented Jenette and Janine with a priceless gift. A handcrafted Kintsugi Japanese box, symbolizing the process of fixing broken pieces with gold, was a powerful representation of their mission. This metaphor resonates deeply with their work in the adoptee community – embracing the beauty of human flaws and reuniting families through love and compassion.
Individual Artwork Placards – A Touching Tribute
In addition to the Kintsugi box, Adoption Savvy presented the twins with individual artwork placards. These frames were adorned with the signatures of significant individuals who had worked on the project, carrying the poignant messages “You Are Not Broken, You Are Radiantly Whole” and “Our Scars Should Be Displayed with Dignified Confidence.” The emotional gesture left Jenette and Janine speechless, reinforcing their commitment to positively impacting the lives of adoptees and their families.

The event saw a gathering of notable activists and leaders, including Arun Dohle, Executive Director of Against Child Trafficking; Tyler Graf, founder of Connecting Roots; and Sandy White Hawk, founder and Director of First Nations Repatriation Institute. The presence of these esteemed guests further underscored the significance of Jenette and Janine’s work.
Maya’s Heartfelt Message: “You Are Not Alone!”
At the end of the unforgettable night, Jenette’s youngest daughter, Maya, a spirited 7-year-old, grabbed the mic from her dad, delivering her heartfelt message to her mom, Aunty, and the guests, “You are not alone!” Her innocent words touched the hearts of everyone present, reinforcing the sense of unity and love that defined the celebration.
